Yeo Nets Another Honor
INDIANAPOLIS – Triton High School senior basketball star Clay Yeo continues to add to his lengthy list of honors.
Yeo, who will lead the Trojans into the Class 1-A state championship game on Saturday, earned first-team, All-State honors Thursday from the IBCA.
Yeo, a Valparaiso University recruit, was one of 15 players statewide named to the IBCA Senior All-State first team. The 6-6 guard is averaging 26 points and eight rebounds per game for the 20-5 Trojans, who will play Borden Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the 1-A state title.
The area was well represented on the Senior All-State team. Also making the list were senior standouts Demetrius Jackson of Mishawaka Marian and Austin Torres of Penn. Both have signed to play at Notre Dame and Jackson has been selected as a McDonald’s All-American.
Jared Bloom of Warsaw headlines the group of area players who earned honorable mention honors on the IBCA Senior All-State list. Bloom, a 6-0 guard, was the top scorer for the Class 4-A sectional champion Tigers.
Nick Kindig of Tippecanoe Valley was also tabbed as an honorable mention choice. The guard led the Vikings in scoring as Valley captured a Class 3-A sectional championship as well as a conference title during the 2012-13 season.
Also named as honorable mention picks were Joe Beard (South Bend Adams), Brock Cosey (South Bend Riley), Derek Hinen (Columbia City), Andrew Hostetler (LaVille), Franko House (Concord), Markese McGuire (Elkhart Memorial), Kyle Miller (Westview), Taron Miller (South Bend Clay), Chris Mitchell (Mishawaka), Ethan Pike (Bremen) and Daniel Woll (Columbia City).
Junior Mack Mercer of Plymouth was named to the Underclass All-State first-team by the IBCA on Thursday. The 6-9 forward, who led the Pilgrims to a Class 3-A sectional title, was named to the Core Six group of Junior All-Stars earlier on Thursday.
The Tippecanoe Valley duo of junior Tanner Andrews and sophomore Alex Thacker each earned honorable mention selections to the Underclass team.
Also selected as honorable mention choices were Jordyn Bontrager (Westview), Terry Davis (South Bend Adams), Trent Elliott (Culver), Tra’Veon Johnson (South Bend Washington), Tyler Kupferschmid (Elkhart Christian), Nate Richie (Northridge), Drew Schermerhorn (West Noble) and Jonathan Wilkinson (NorthWood).
