UPDATE: Silver Lake Home Destroyed By Fire
A Silver Lake family is homeless tonight after an early morning fire ignited and consumed their house.
Sabrina Satur tells StaceyPageOnline.com, “We think it was electrical. It started in the bathroom and we heard an explosion and it woke us up. Everything was a total lost. The only stuff we have is what we wore coming out of the house.”
Silver Lake Fire Department was called at at about 4:35 a.m. to the home at 12574 S. SR 15. Upon arrival they immediately called for assistance from nearby fire departments including Claypool, Akron and Pleasant Township.
Although the residents escaped the home unharmed, Satur says they have a 7-pound white toy poodle that is missing and she believes three cats did not make it out of the home.
Kosciusko County Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers were called in to provide a canteen for firefighters on the scene, and also provided food, clothing, linens and shelter assistance to the family. Satur says the family is asking for toys for her 7-year-old nephew who also resided at the home. Any household items such as pots and pans, plates, cups and the like would be welcomed.
Silver Lake Fire Chief Morris Jones has not yet returned our calls for additional information.
