Day Of Caring Set For Aug. 14
The United Way of Kosciusko County has begun planning for the 2013 Day of Caring.
This years’ event is set to take place on Aug. 14, in communities North of Highway 30 and East of Highway 15. Last year was the first time that the county was divided into sections in an attempt to make the logistics of the day more manageable. It was a success. By doing this, volunteers were able to complete several projects at each residence and had a greater impact on the neighborhoods and communities.
Applications for projects are being accepted between March 29-May 3 from residents in communities within the target area who meet one or more of the following criteria: elderly, lower-income, disabled and/or disadvantaged. Applicants must also be the property owner with homeowners insurance. Occasionally, general cleaning and yard work at rental properties will be considered for elderly or those with physical limitations.
Last year, 73 projects were completed by more than 1,100 volunteers. The work ranged from yard maintenance, painting, roof repairs and wheelchair ramp-building. We anticipate having the 2013 project lists on www.volunteerkosciusko.org by early summer.
Day of Caring 2013 is sponsored by United Way of Kosciusko County in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Kosciusko County Senior Services and Grace College. Applications will be available at Combined Community Services, Salvation Army, Housing Opportunities of Warsaw, Habitat for Humanity, Kosciusko Community Senior Services, local churches and the United Way of Kosciusko County office.
For residents in the target area outside of Warsaw, applications will be available at area churches and Town Halls.
