Five Local Cagers Honored By TRC
A handful of area boys basketball players have been honored by the Three Rivers Conference for their efforts during the 2012-13 campaign.
Highlighting the list of All-TRC choices are the outstanding duo of Nick Kindig and Tanner Andrews from league champion Tippecanoe Valley.
Kindig, a senior guard, led the Vikings in scoring at 18.7 points-per-game and also went over 1,000 career points during his senior season.
Andrews, a junior forward, averaged 17.2 ppg. for Valley.
Kindig and Andrews led coach Bill Patrick’s team to a perfect 7-0 mark in TRC play as the Vikings captured their first outright conference title since the 2007-08 season. Valley, which shared the conference crown with Northfield at 6-1 a year ago, finished 20-4 overall. The Vikings won the Class 3-A Wawasee Sectional championship before losing to Norwell 77-65 this past Saturday in a semifinal game of the Class 3-A Blackford Regional.
Whitko standout Gabe Powell also earned All-TRC honors. The 6-3 senior averaged 10.2 ppg. for the Wildcats, who finished 6-16 overall and 3-4 in league play during the 2012-13 season.
The Valley pair of senior Jacob Ritchey and sophomore Alex Thacker each earned honorable mention All-TRC accolades.
