Warsaw Police Department Reports
Incidents
Officers of the Warsaw Police Department recently investigated the following incidents:
- March 7, 9:11 a.m. Debra Fuller reported an act of criminal mischief at 322 South Washington Street, which resulted in damages up to $2,500.
- March 7, 11:45 a.m. Louise Hopkins reported an individual leaving the scene of a car accident that involved her vehicle.
- March 7, 3:32 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop for an infraction and discovered the driver to have a suspended infraction and was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear for the same offense.
- March 7, 7:34 p.m. Officers responded to the 200 block of North Ft. Wayne Avenue in reference to a welfare check. The victim transported to KCH where he was pronounced dead. Frankie Lee Poe, 40, South Buffalo Street, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail early this morning as a person of interest in the death investigation. Investigation is ongoing.
Accidents
Officers of the Warsaw Police Department recently investigated the following accidents:
Tuesday, March 5 5:18 p.m. North Detroit Street and West 300 North. Drivers: Ronald A. Slone, 35, Joshua Tree, Calif.; and Ronald C. Bedward, 49, Miami Drive, Nappanee. Both Slone and Bedward were traveling northbound on SR 15 when Slone attempted to turn west. Due to snow on the road, Slone was unable to make it into the turn lane and instead attempted to merge back into traffic and into Bedward’s vehicle. Damages: up to $2,500
Tuesday, March 5, 5:06 p.m. East Market and Harrison Streets. Drivers: Cletus Holland, 75, Runkle Drive, Warsaw; and Ricky Poe, 58, North 325 East, Warsaw. Holland, who was northbound, pulled out in front of Poe, who was proceeding through the stop sign toward the east. Unable to avoid the collision due to snow conditions, both vehicles collided and were thrust into a nearby homeowner’s lawn. Holland complained of pain in his thighs from his steering wheel as well as to his left elbow. Holland declined medical attention at the scene. Damages: up to $10,000
Tuesday, March 5, 5:04 p.m. Dubois and Provident Drives. Drivers: Meredith Miller, 33, Stag Drive, Warsaw; and Joshua Hays, 34, East Secton Street, Claypool. Due to weather conditions, Miller slid while traveling soutwest causing her vehicle to clip Hays who was traveling northbound on Provident Drive. Damages: up to $5,000
Tuesday, March 5, 4:59 p.m. West Center and North Union Streets. Drivers: Joanna Nunez, 17, Meadow Drive, Warsaw; and Dusty Olivarez, 32, Inverness Point, Warsaw. Due to weather conditions, Nunez, who was southbound on North Union Street, slid when slowing for the stop sign at West Center Street. The slide caused her to go into the intersection where she was struck by Olivarez, who was westbound on Center Street. Damages: up to $5,000
Tuesday, March 5, 4:40 p.m. East Smith and South Bronson Streets. Drivers: Staci Wolley, 17, East 1100 North, Syracuse; and Jaqueline Kersey, 17, South 200 West, Silver Lake. Wolley was eastbound on Winona Avenue behind Kersey’s vehicle. Due to weather conditions, Wolley was unable to stop her vehicle in time when Kersey stopped for a turn causing Wolley to rear end Kersey’s vehicle. Damages: up to $2,500
Tuesday, March 5, 4:00 p.m. 315 North Detroit Street. Drivers: Zachary Neher, 18, East North Winds Drive, Warsaw; and Jill Poynter, 38, East SR 114, North Manchester. Neher was backing out of a parking space at McDonald’s and was unable to see clearly due to fog. As he backed up he struck Poynter who was stopped behind him in the drive through line. Damages: up to $2,500
Wednesday, March 6, 8:42 a.m. 3014 Frontage Road. Drivers: Russell K. Hardy, 43, Heritage Drive, Pierceton. Dispatch was advised of a pedestrian who was struck by a car who had fled the scene of the accident. When police arrived they found Jason Schue at the scene with an injured knee. Schue stated that he had approached Hardy, who was involved in leud activities in his veheicle, to tell him he had notified police of his actions and they were on their way. Hardy then proceeded to leave the scene, striking into Schue as he fled. Witnesses were able to copy the plate numbers on Hardy’s vehicle and it was traced back to Hardy’s girlfriend. Police were able to locate Hardy who claims he was attacked by Shue and fled due to fear. The vehicle was found to have no insurance. Schue declined medical attention but did state he was in significant pain. Damages: up to $1,000
Wednesday March 6, 10:51 p.m. Patterson and Normandy roads. Drivers: Jaqueline Hutchison, 47, Sophie Lane, Warsaw; and Celia Bajas, 49, Boulder Drive, Warsaw. Hutchinson was westbound on Patterson Road and, as she was approaching the intersection, her vehicle began to slide causing her to hit Bajas head on. Hutchison complained of pain in her torso, pelvis, and right leg. Hutchison’s sons Miguel Jesus Huizar, 14, also complained of a wrist and was taken to KCH. Bajas stated that she had pain in her knees from the crash but declined medical attention. Damages: up to $25,000
Thursday, March 7, 4:57 p.m. Lake City Highway. Drivers: Alger Jackson, 88, Old Road 30, Warsaw; and Adam Smith, 27, Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Jackson and Smith were eastbound on Lake City Highway when upon stopping, Smith was rear ended by Jackson. Damages: up to $2,500
Thursday, March 7, 3:31 p.m. North Detroit and East Main Street. Drivers: Trever Scharnhorst, 23, West 250 South, Warsaw; and David Vanderpool, 55, East Wooster Road, Pierceton. Scharnhorst, northbound on Detroit Street, failed to stop at a red light and struck into Vanderpool’s vehicle, who was westbound on East Main Street. Damages: up to $10,000
