Trojans Trounce Knox
KNOX – The Triton boys basketball team put an exclamation point on the regular season Friday night.
The red-hot shooting Trojans trounced host Knox 76-37 in the Northern State Conference and regular-season finale.
Senior star and Indiana All-Star candidate Clay Yeo led the way for the Trojans who won their seventh straight game. Yeo poured in 24 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in another stellar effort from the Valparaiso University recruit.
Triton, which improves to 15-5, blitzed to a 25-7 lead after the opening period. The Trojans shot 19-of-31 from the field to lead 46-14 at halftime.
Tanner Shepherd turned in another strong outing for Triton with 16 points. Joey Corder had 14 points and eight rebounds for the winners, who had 10 players score in the route.
Triton, which shared the NSC title with New Prairie at 6-1, shot 31-of-58 from the field for the game. Knox was just 12-of-38 from the field. The Trojans have now won four straight conference championships.
Dylan Short led the hosts with 14 points. Knox, with its 10th straight loss, drops to 2-18 overall and finishes 0-7 in NSC play.
Triton plays Culver or Argos next Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET in the first semifinal game of the Class 1-A Culver Sectional. The Trojans will be going for their sixth straight sectional title.
Knox will face Calumet Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET in the first round of the Class 3-A Kankakee Valley Sectional.
