UPDATE: Police Sought Armed Man In Westhaven
Shortly after 1 a.m. today, police were called to Westhaven Estates on Old Road 30 West where someone reported hearing three shots fired. A domestic dispute had been confirmed and police learned a male subject left the initial residence armed with a gun.
Today, Joseph Amanuel Hettinger, 33, is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail without bond after he was taken into custody following a brief search.
Officers were called to Lot 686 at Westhaven Estates Mobile Home Park, 3762 W. Old Road 30, at 1:21 a.m. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a second mobile home where a female victim had fled from Hettinger who she said discharged the firearm.
Arriving officers established a perimeter in the area and at 2:10 a.m. located Hettinger, who was taken into custody without further incident.
Police found several weapons at Hettinger’s residence, one of those being a Springfield 9mm handgun that was apparently fired three times in an unknown direction. Both the victim and suspect were bleeding and have minor injuries resulting from an earlier domestic dispute that escalated to a physical fight.
The victim told police she fled the residence after Hettinger made comments that she construed as being threatening to her life. According to witnesses, Hettinger followed the woman to the residence where she went to seek shelter and made a threatening action with a 12 gauge shotgun to that homeowner.
Deputies arrested Hettinger and preliminary charged him with felony domestic battery and two counts of felony intimidation with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held without bond.
