Business As Usual For Township Advisors
The Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board spent a short regular monthly meeting Monday evening discussing business as usual.
Fire Chief Mickey Scott reported annual maintenance on the department’s trucks was completed last month and a committee is currently researching options for the replacement or remount of an equipment truck. A total of $250,000 is budgeted in the 2013 Equipment Replacement Fund for this purpose.
Scott provided the board with a copy of the updated 2013 salary ordinance resolution. In December, the board approved of a request from the Turkey Creek Township/Syracuse Professional Firefighters Union Local 4795 that all full-time employees earn 12 hours of personal time each quarter that sick time is not taken, rather than eight hours. Since the fire chief position is not covered in the collective bargaining agreement, changes were made to the salary ordinance to reflect a similar change for the fire chief. The board approved of this change.
Scott also reported he intends to set up a meeting with the department’s health insurance provider regarding the new federal health care laws to take effect Jan. 1, 2014. Scott expects these laws will have an impact on the health insurance budget for 2014. Board member Kim Cates asked to be a part of this meeting.
The Turkey Creek Township Advisors meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at Syracuse Fire Station Two. The next meeting will be March 11.
