John Brookins
John Brookins, 82, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 5:02 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, Ind.
He was born June 6, 1930, in North Manchester, Ind., to Orbie W. and Bertha Mae (Bonewitz) Brookins.
He was a Warsaw resident since 1965. On Nov. 21, 1981, he was united in marriage to Shirley Hatfield who preceded him in death in November 2001.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a gunner with the Anti-Aircraft Artillery. He was formerly employed by Ditto’s Supermarket and Kroger Supermarket, both of Warsaw, as a meat cutter. He was a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge and the American Legion Eel River Post #286 of North Manchester.
Survivors include three daughters: Joni Brookins, Warsaw; Brenda (Dane) Weaver, Warsaw; Ellen (Steve) Stayer, Warsaw; two sons: Randy (Sandy) Hatfield, Warsaw; Rod (Vicki) Hatfield, Olathe, Kan.; a sister: Lois Palmer, Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren: Greg Weaver, Brittany (Travis) Hartman, Eric (Kristin) Stayer, Tara (Justin) Kundert, Jeannie Hatfield, Stephanie Hatfield, Monica Hatfield and Nathan Hatfield, Rachell (spouse Drew) Cooper, Curtis Hatfield, Ralph (Dana) Hatfield, Alyssa Hatfield and Quinn Hatfield; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Helen Price, Ruth Anne Hileman; one brother: Donald Brookins; and a grandson: Anthony Hatfield.
Calling will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home with Pastor Steven Ailes Officiating. Interment will be in Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, Ind.
