Plant a Seed….READ! Community Book Read
Plan to attend the Milford Public Library’s book discussion of My Antonia at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11. Light refreshments will be served.
The Community Book Read is for residents of Kosciusko County. This year’s book selection is My Antonia by Willa Cather. This beloved American classic is narrated by Jim Burden remembering his early years by writing about his friend, Antonia Shimerda, a Bohemian immigrant.
The story begins as the 10-year old orphan Jim travels by train from Virginia to his grandparent’s home in Nebraska. Cather explores themes of time, death, youth and friendship in the novel. Children grow and lose their innocence while the frontier becomes productive but fenced. The novel centers on childhood memories and friendships and the changes these friendships undergo from childhood through adulthood.
Free copies of My Antonia can be found in the bright yellow bin in the teen area of the Milford Public Library. Please take, read and enjoy the book. Return the book to the bin so someone else may read it. The books will be available until March. A free digital download of the book is available at Amazon.com. You can download the book on to your e-book reader or computer. Readers may also read the entire book online.
