Evans, Catherine obit photoCatherine Virginia Ours Evans, 97, of Gallatin, Tenn., passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.

Mrs. Evans was born on Jan. 2, 1916, in Hardy County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Alston Clyde Ours and Sarah Elizabeth Judy Ours. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gallatin, Tenn., and the First United Methodist Church of Claypool, Claypool, Ind. She was a member of Colonial Dames XXVII Century, the DAR, Daughter of the Union Veterans, Daughter of the Confederacy and Daughter of the American Colonists.

She is survived by her son: Robert Evans, Gallatin, Tenn.; one sister: Nellie Mae Ours Leatherman, Old Fields, W.Va.; three grandchildren: Richard T. Evans, Gallatin, Tenn.; Christine (Joe) Shurannah, Huntsville, Ala.; and Danielle (Jeff) Smith, Gallatin, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren: Michael and Anna Shurannah; and Reid, Ethan and Catherine Smith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Quentin Evans; and one brother: Alston Clyde Ours Jr.

Her visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Alexander Funeral Home, 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, Tenn.

Locally, visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw, Ind. Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Mike Settles. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool.

Memorial donations in Catherine’s name may be directed to Claypool United Methodist Church, 302 E. Section St., Claypool, IN 46510 and would be appreciated by her family.
