Clay Yeo made history in a big way Friday night for the Triton boys basketball team.
The senior star poured in 36 points as the Trojans rallied in the second half for a key 55-43 win over host Jimtown in Northern State Conference play.
Yeo, an Indiana All-Star candidate and Valparaiso University recruit, became Triton’s all-time leading scorer in the win Friday night. Yeo, a 6-6 guard who is averaging 28.1 points-per-game this season, now has 1,701 career points. The previous school standard was 1,672 held by former Triton girls star Ashli (Senff) Faulkner, a 2003 graduate who helped lead her team to a pair of Class 1-A state championships in 2000 and 2001.
The Trojans trailed Jimtown 37-22 at halftime Friday night before holding the Jimmies to just six second-half points. Triton outscored Jimtown 13-3 in the third period and 20-3 in the fourth quarter to rally for the key league win. Tanner Shepherd scored 10 points for the winners.
Triton improves to 9-5 overall and is tied with Bremen and New Prairie for first place in the NSC at 3-1.
Jimtown hit seven treys in the opening half Friday night to build its 15-point lead at intermission. Nick Floyd led the Jimmies, now 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the NSC, with 15 points on five treys. Chase Hoeflinger had 12 points for Jimtown.
Triton plays at Argos and Jimtown travels to Elkhart Christian on Tuesday night.
Kindig Lights It Up In Valley Victory
Nick Kindig made sure the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team stayed unbeaten in league play Friday night.
The senior guard poured in 30 points as the Vikings rolled to a 63-44 win at Manchester in Three Rivers Conference action.
Kindig hit four treys for the Vikings, who rolled to an 18-6 lead after the opening quarter. Valley improves to 12-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the TRC. The Vikings, who shared the TRC title with Northfield last year, are going for their first outright league crown since the 2007-08 season. Valley has TRC games left versus Wabash Friday and North Miami on Feb. 7. Northfield, who the Vikings have already beaten, are 4-1 in TRC play.
Tanner Andrews turned in another strong all-around game for Valley Friday night. The junior forward had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Clayton Petrie led Manchester, which drops to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the TRC, with 13 points.
Valley hosts Maconaquah Tuesday night.
Whitko Notches TRC Win
Whitko collected its first conference win of the season by edging past host Wabash 76-74 Friday night.
The Wildcats, with the TRC win, improve to 3-12 overall and 1-4 in league play. Wabash falls to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the TRC.
Whitko plays at North Miami Friday night.
