UPDATE: Charges Mounting From Morning Pursuit
A police K9 successfully tracked a male suspect who was involved in a pursuit with Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Indiana State Police and Mentone Police this morning.
At 10:26 a.m., the suspect, identified as Aaron Brubaker, 29, of Warsaw, was taken into custody.
The incident began at about 9:15 a.m. today when an Indiana State Police officer saw a maroon Dodge pickup truck on SR 19 north of Mentone. The truck was reported stolen last night from Warsaw. The driver of the truck refused to stop for an ISP officer and a pursuit began.
While fleeing the officer on SR 19, Brubaker allegedly threw a bag of what police suspected was a bag of marijuana from the moving vehicle.
The pursuit continued through Mentone and west into Marshall County where officers temporarily lost sight of the truck. The driver, however, had crashed in a wooded area near 19th and Apple roads.
According to police, Brubaker is allegedly also a suspect in a theft that happened this morning at Service Liquors, Warsaw. Lt. Kip Shuter of Warsaw Police Department says Brubaker admitted going into the liquor store on East Center Street at 8:50 a.m. today and stealing two porn magazines.
Brubaker drove away from the theft in the pickup truck that was reported stolen at 7:24 p.m. Monday from the parking lot at Flexaust, 1401 E. Smith St., Warsaw. The owner of the vehicle was warming up the vehicle when it was stolen.
Brubaker fled this morning’s crash scene on foot and police searched the area for nearly an hour before the K9 led them to a farmhouse at Apple Road and 19th Road just inside Marshall County. There, Brubaker was taken into custody.
Warsaw Police have so far charged Brubaker with class D felony theft stemming from the theft of the magazines. Wednesday morning, Brubaker was also charged with felony resisting law enforcement by state police and auto theft.
