North Webster Public Library News
Trying to figure out that new e-reader you got for Christmas? Bring it to the North Webster Public Library and we’ll show you how.
The library will be conducting its second E-Reader Class at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, for all you e-reader newbies. You’ll learn how to download e-books free from the library on your Kindle, Nook or MP3.
Through the library’s membership in e-Indiana Digital Consortium, patrons can access thousands of e-books and audio books using their library card and password. Taught by Janette Stackhouse, the E-Reader Class is free, but advanced registration is required and open to adults only. Be sure to bring your library card, along with your e-reader. Kindle users will also need to bring their Amazon user name and password. Class size is limited, so sign up soon to reserve your spot.
While the adults are mastering new technology, the youth will be learning the ancient art of Japanese origami, the traditional art form of paper folding. Teens are invited to have “Fun with Origami” during Teen Time at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17. They’ll learn how to transform a flat piece of paper into a finished sculpture through folding techniques. Snacks included.
Teens who don’t have a library card will have a chance to sign up for one during parent-teacher conferences at Wawasee High School from 3:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 14. A library staff member will be on hand to sign teens up with a parent’s signature. A North Webster Community Public Library card is free of charge for anyone living in Tippecanoe Township, and through our membership in Evergreen Indiana your North Webster Library card can also be used at many surrounding libraries.
Don’t forget that January is Audio Book Month. For those who aren’t familiar with audio books, they are narrated books that are recorded on CDs or tape cassettes that can be listened to. They are ideal for persons with limited eye sight or who have difficulty reading and are great to listen to while traveling, exercising, or working.
To celebrate Audio Book Month and to encourage patrons to check out North Webster Library’s large selection of audio books. The library is holding a special drawing. Every time you check out audio books during January, you can enter your name in a drawing to win a free CD player. The more times you check out audio books, the more chances you have to win. The winner will be announced and the prize awarded during National Library Week Celebration at 6:30 p.m. April 18. The winner must be present to claim the prize – so save the date!
