Eagles Pull Away To Top LCA
WINONA LAKE – A big fourth quarter performance carried Elkhart Christian past Lakeland Christian Academy Friday night in boys basketball action.
The Eagles outscored the hosts 22-7 in the final stanza to pull away for a 63-48 victory.
Elkhart Christian, which lost a close contest 44-37 at Triton Thursday night, led 33-23 at halftime Friday night. The Cougars rallied to tie the game at 41-41 after the third quarter before the Eagles closed the game with a flourish.
Zarek Finley tallied 14 points to lead the way for LCA, which drops to 4-8 on the season. Chris Silveus had nine points for the Cougars.
The trio of Chris Maron, Collin Price and Calvin Prinsen each scored seven points for LCA. Prinsen led coach Lee Compson’s squad with nine rebounds.
Ryan Kupferschmid poured in a game-high 24 points to pace Elkhart Christian to the win. The Eagles, who improve to 6-2, had defeated LCA 67-31 in a tournament back on Dec. 15.
Tanner Watson netted 20 points for coach Ryan Culp’s Eagle squad.
LCA hosts Granger Christian Jan. 15. Elkhart Christian hosts South Bend St. Joseph Tuesday night.
