Bobcats Topple Trojans
BOURBON – Ashley Campbell led the way Wednesday night as Oregon-Davis raced past host Triton 65-55 in a matchup of Class 1-A powers.
Campbell tossed in a game-high 25 points as the No. 2 Bobcats powered to the non-conference win over the No. 9 Trojans.
Triton, which was playing for the first time since a home loss to Warsaw on Dec. 19, led 14-13 after the opening period. OD, which lost games to Class 4-A powers Penn and Michigan City in the South Bend Washington tourney last week, led 31-29 at halftime and 46-39 after the third quarter.
The Bobcats, who improved to 11-3, hit 22-of-31 free throws in the victory and also forced Triton into 22 turnovers.
Haley Collings had a big game with 13 points and 19 rebounds for OD. Alicia McIntosh, Jessica Avarone and Lexi Minix each had nine points for coach Terry Minix’s team.
Kylie Mason led the way with Triton with 19 points and connected on five of her team’s nine 3-pointers. Shana Anderson scored 13 points, Taylor Hatfield nine and Krystal Sellers eight for the Trojans. Breanna Lemler had 10 rebounds for coach Adam Heckaman’s squad.
Triton, which drops to 8-4, was just 10-of-14 from the free throw line in the loss.
The two teams could meet again in the Class 1-A Oregon-Davis Sectional at the end of the season. They could also play each other again later this month in the annual TCU Bi-County Tournament, which begins Jan. 15.
Oregon-Davis hosts Glenn Tuesday. Triton will host Glenn Friday in a conference contest.
