Covenant Christian Clips Cougars

lca smallWINONA LAKE – The Lakeland Christian Academy girls basketball team closed out play in its own tourney Saturday with a loss to Covenant Christian of DeMotte.

A strong fourth quarter carried Covenant Christian past the Cougars 50-37 in the Cougar Classic played at Grace College.

Covenant led just 35-33 after the third quarter before outscoring the hosts 15-4 in the final period of play. LCA was outscored 18-7 in the second stanza to trail 28-18 at halftime before rallying to cut the deficit to just two points after the third period.

Alissa Gross led the way for LCA with 13 points. Emilee Catron hit four 3-pointers to score 12 points for the Cougars. Ashley Ormsby had six points and Jess Goss five for coach Ty Propp’s team.

Rachel Schurman tallied a game-high 21 points to lead Covenant Christian to the win. Calli Beezhold scored 11 and Jennifer Heerema added 10.

LCA, now 2-10 on the season, plays at Elkhart Christian Thursday night.
