WINONA LAKE – The Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team had a pair of nail-biters Friday in their own Cougar Classic.
The hosts defeated South Bend Trinity 58-55 in overtime and lost 51-50 to Clinton Christian in the first day of the two-day tourney being played at Grace College.
Calvin Prinsen turned in a huge all-around game to pace the Cougars past South Bend Trinity in the third meeting of the season between the two teams. Prinsen had 28 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots as LCA beat Trinity for the first time this season.
Zarek Finley had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win for LCA. Collin Price scored eight points and Chris Silveus six for the Cougars.
Mark Harvard, Bobby Cramer and Emanuel Black each had 10 points to lead Trinity, now 3-4.
Jamin Hochstetler hit a layup at the final buzzer to lift Clinton to its win over LCA. Hochstetler poured in 23 points and Madison Yoder 19 for the Couriers, who improved to 8-4.
Prinsen netted 17 points and Finley 15 to lead LCA. Price scored nine points and Chris Maron had seven for the Cougars, who drop to 3-7.
The tourney, which includes both the LCA boys and girls hoops teams, continues today.
