Miller Leads Lancers Past Madonna
LIVONIA, Mich. – Greg Miller poured in a career-high 27 points to lead the No. 9 Grace College men’s basketball team to an 80-76 victory over No. 25 Madonna Friday night.
The Lancers (8-2) will take on their second ranked opponent in as many days tomorrow when they face No. 22 Rochester in the second day of the Hines Park Crusader Classic.
The first half between Grace and Madonna was tightly contested as the score was tied nine times.
The Crusaders (8-5) grabbed their largest lead of the game in the first half with a 25-19 advantage. But the Lancers erased the deficit as back-to-back 3-pointers from Miller and Elliot Smith capped off an 8-0 run to give Grace the lead.
Madonna took a 38-37 lead into the halftime break, but the Crusaders would not lead again after Miller’s basket 17 seconds into the second half.
Grace’s defense put the clamps down shortly after as they did not allow Madonna to make a field goal for nearly seven minutes of action. As a result, Grace opened up a 55-46 lead.
The Lancers maintained their cushion for the duration of the game as Madonna would not come closer than four points.
Miller led all players with his 27 points, which he tallied on 10-of-14 shooting with a trio of 3-pointers. He also added 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.
Bruce Grimm Jr. scored 19 points with three assists, and Smith passed out seven assists to go along with 10 points.
Lee Ross, earning his first start of the season, responded with a season-high eight points, Karl Columbus added six points and six rebounds, and Dennis Williams and Kyle Fillman each pulled down five boards off the bench.
The Lancers’ game tomorrow against No. 25 Rochester will tip off at 1 p.m.
