Defense Plus Yeo Equal Triton Win
BOURBON – Defense and another big dose of Clay Yeo propelled the Triton boys basketball team to a convincing win over New Prairie Friday night.
The Trojans outscored the Cougars 24-6 in the second half and Yeo netted 29 points in a 51-27 victory in the Northern State Conference opener for both teams.
Senior star Yeo, for the second straight game, outscored the entire other team. The Valparaiso University recruit fired in 37 points Tuesday night during a 72-36 road win at Bethany Christian. That game saw the Trojans outscore the Bruins 49-10 in the final half.
Triton, which tied for the NSC title with LaVille at 6-1 last season, led just 11-9 after the opening quarter and 27-21 at halftime Friday night. The Trojans then outscored New Prairie 7-3 in the third period and 17-3 in the final frame to post the blowout win.
New Prairie, which falls to 3-3, had just 11 field goals in the contest. The Cougars did hit five 3-pointers. Triton committed just eight fouls in the win.
