Burlyn C. Conkling
Burlyn C. Conkling, 98, of Cromwell, Ind., passed away at 1:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Northridge Village in Albion, Ind.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1914, to Grey Sloan and Ethel Mae (Smith) Conkling in Bureau County, Ill. On Jan. 19, 1936, he married Gladys I. Prentice; she preceded him in death in March of 1977. On Feb. 2, 1978, Burlyn married Virginia M. CoMack; she preceded him in death in September 1996.
Burlyn was a farmer and self-employed carpenter and contractor for many years. He was a member of Broadway Christian Chapel. Burlyn enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, fishing, camping and traveling.
He is survived by two daughters: Sharon K. (Alan) Beers, Kimmell, Ind.; and Carolyn A. (Richard) Adair, Cromwell; two stepdaughters: Kay (Jerry) Hendy, Gas City, Ind.; Becky (Larry) Morgan, Jonesboro, Ind.; two stepsons: James Kinzie, Marion, Ind.; and Terry (Peggy) Kinzie, Marion; one half- brother: Kenneth E. Conkling, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; two half brothers: Glenn G. Conkling and Lyle W. Conkling; a brother: Gail G. Conkling; a sister: Artie M. Oliver; and a grandson: Michael Adair.
Calling will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Richard Rensner officiating. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell.
