UPDATE: Unusual Pursuit Near Leesburg
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies were involved in an unusual pursuit north of Leesburg Saturday night when a juvenile took a piece of construction equipment on a joyride.
The 15-year-old is now facing potential charges of aggravated battery which caused substantial risk of death or injury.
KCSD and Indiana State Police responded to the area of CRs 900 North and 250 West at around 8:40 p.m. Saturday. Police say they were called for an out of control 15-year-old Milford boy but when they arrived, they met with the boy’s parents who said their son fled the residence in a skid-loader.
The boy had apparently become agitated earlier in the evening and locked his mother out of the house, then grabbed a baseball bat and machete from the home, fled to the skid-loader and drove into a nearby field.
The teen’s father provided officers with a 4-wheel drive ATV to use in an attempt to apprehend his son. As the deputy and trooper approached the skid-loader, the juvenile suddenly turned the machinery around and then rammed the ATV with the front pallet fork attachment, completely disabling the ATV.
The juvenile continued back out of the field approaching marked squad cars on CR 300 West. The boy then spun the skid-loader, consecutively striking the front of both a Milford Police Department and a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department squad car.
According to police, officers attempted to contain the juvenile for approximately an hour in the general area until they were able to pepper spray him, resulting in his surrender.
KCSD officers transported the juvenile to the Pierceton Woods Juvenile Detention Center, Pierceton. Officers are currently forwarding potential juvenile charges of two counts of aggravated battery with substantial risk of death or injury to the Kosciusko County Probation Department.
