Walter Martin
Walter Martin, 88, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake, Ind.
He was born June 21, 1924, in Kokomo, Ind., to I.W. and Francis (Wagoner) Martin. He was a World War II veteran having served in the 31st Special Services Company, 634th Sp Sv Platoon, Aleutian Islands, Ala.
On Nov. 5, 1946, he married Kathleen McColley in New York City, N.Y., at the Church of Transfiguration.
He was a controller at Creighton Brothers, Warsaw, for 25 years, retiring in 1993 He graduated from North Webster High School in 1942 as senior class president and was a member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge F&AM #73 for 60 years, Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne, Ind., and the Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne.
He is survived by a daughter: Colleen (Patrick) Valentine, Midland, Ga.; a son: Todd (Margaret) Martin, Ocala, Fla.; two grandsons: Todd (Marilyn) Valentine, Seattle, Wash.; and Ryan Valentine, Midland, Ga.; three great-grandsons: Perry Valentine, Midland, Ga.; and Parker and Nicholas Valentine, Seattle, Wash.; and a great-granddaughter: Emma Valentine, Midland, Ga.; a sister: Carol (Richard) Sand, Ariz.; a brother: Joe (Sharon) Martin, Englewood, Fla.; longtime friends: Doug Hoffer; Gertrude Smythe; Duane and Beth Huffer; and a beloved dog: Frauli.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Kathleen (McColley) Martin.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A graveside service will follow at noon in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Military graveside honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
