Prep Roundball Wrapup
The Triton girls basketball team opened conference play Saturday night in a big way.
Junior Taylor Hatfield fired in 24 points as the Trojans topped Knox 69-38 in their Northern State Conference opener in Bourbon.
Triton, ranked No. 9 in Class 1-A, led 18-7 after the opening quarter and 40-20 at halftime en route to the dominating win.
Sophomore Kylie Mason netted 13 points and sophomore Krystal Sellers 10 as Triton improved to 5-2 overall. The Trojans hit seven 3-pointers in the victory.
Triton plays at Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday.
In other prep girls action Saturday, Tippecanoe Valley dropped its league opener to Wabash 46-40 in Akron. The Vikings were outscored 16-9 in the fourth quarter.
Cara Hoffman led Valley with 17 points. Connor Fraser scored seven points and Caylie Teel had six for the Vikings.
The Vikings, who have lost three in a row, fall to 2-4 on the season with the Three Rivers Conference loss.
Cagney Craig tossed in 19 points as Whitko opened its Three Rivers Conference schedule Saturday with a 57-32 home win over North Miami.
Jordan Hall netted 12 points and Josie Sparks had 10 for the Wildcats, who snapped a three-game losing skid to improve to 3-4. Whitko plays at Manchester Friday night.
On the boys side Saturday, Whitko dropped a 32-19 final at Bellmont to remain winless on the season. The Wildcats (0-4) host Central Noble Tuesday night.
