Elkhart County police are saying two bodies found today appear to be victims of a connected crime.
The first body of a female, now identified as Debbie McDowell, 45, of Elkhart, was found at the former Farmer’s Market on CR 26, just off of SR 19 south of Elkhart. McDowell’s body was located in the parking lot.
About an hour later, police were called to a second location, Poor Tony’s Restaurant and Grill, 2110 W. Franklin St., in Elkhart, where a male subject said he had information on McDowell’s death. There, the body of a male victim was found. Police say Ervin Howard, 63, died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department continues its investigation.
