Grace Soccer Men Edged 1-0
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The lone goal in the 83rd minute was the only separation between Grace College and Roberts Wesleyan College on Thursday in mens soccer action on the second day of the NCCAA National Tournament.
The Raiders broke the stalemate with their late game winner as the Lancers’ offensive struggles continue in Florida.
Grace outshot Roberts Wesleyan 9-6 in the opening period, but they were not able to penetrate the Raiders’ (11-9-1) net.
The Lancers (13-6-3) continued their offensive pressure to start the second half, tallying the first four shots of the period.
Ben Bassous and Devin Kemmerer each took strong shot attempts in the early portions of the second half, and Dylan Andersen came off the bench to fire a low shot inside the penalty box after finding space on a run.
Goalkeeper Collin Cone did his best to keep Roberts Wesleyan scoreless with a pair of fine saves with less than 18 minutes remaining in the game.
The Raiders finally broke onto the scoreboard at the 82:52 mark on a goal from Donavan Wilson, and the Lancers failed to find the equalizer in the remaining minutes.
Grace led in shot attempts for the game by a narrow 14-13 margin as Steven Fiema led Grace with four shots. Gift Sibukome tallied three shots, and Devin Kemmerer added two.
A total of 28 fouls and five yellow cards were issued in the match as the Raiders were responsible for four of the bookings.
The Lancers will play in the seventh-place game on Saturday at 12:15 p.m.
