UPDATE: Snow In The Forecast
Temperatures around Warsaw are cooler than yesterday’s highs, which reached into the 60s. Winds are sustained between 20 mph and 25 with gusts up to 30 miles per hour. And the cooler temps are expected to bring a few flurries.
Tonight’s forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of snow for the area, but due to Warsaw’s distance from Lake Michigan, that snow isn’t expected to accumulate more than one tenth of an inch, says meteorologist Courtney Obergfell at the Northern Indiana National Weather Service office in Syracuse.
“Normal high temps for this time of year are into the 40s and yesterday was 20 degrees above normal,” explained Obergfell. “Low temps on average are in the upper 20s so tonight should be below average as well.”
Flurries expected tonight will not last long, at least for the weekend. “The rest of the weekend will be dry into Monday,” according to Obergfell. “Another storm system could move through Monday into Tuesday, but the direction it will take is still up in the air.”
The system on Monday could bring rain, snow or a mixture of both depending on which track it takes, but the meteorologist says there is no clear prediction on accumulation amounts.
According to The Weather Channel, the storm has potential to cause severe storms in the deep South with significant snowfall in our area, but those forecasters also agree it’s too early to tell.
While the flurries start to fall, many are wondering what this means for the rest of the holidays.
According to the National Weather Service, it’s too soon to tell. “We’re looking at El Niño, La Niña conditions and we’re in between” said Obergfell. “There are no strong indicators of which way the weather will turn, so there’s not enough signs to give a solid prediction.”
