Audit Results In Felony Warrant
Milford Police have received a warrant for the arrest of Steve Gutowski, 38, a former account representative for The Municipal, a publication of The Papers Inc., Milford.
The warrant charges Gutowski, whose last known address was in Winona Lake,
with three counts of theft, Class B felonies; and three counts of forgery, Class C felonies.
Milford Police officer Travis Marsh stated this morning officials at The Papers contacted him after a routine audit produced anomalies that did not match up with business practices. “Upon digging further they located activities that dealt with his accounts and fraudulent activities,” stated Marsh, adding that Gutowski allegedly misreported sales that were not happening.
The fraudulent activities resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars including commissions paid out to ghost accounts.
While the investigation showed 41 accounts were affected, the charges are based on those clients whose business are closest to Kosciusko County, due to potential appearances in future court proceedings. Gutowski sold advertisement to companies across the Midwest.
Gutowski was employed by The Municipal from September 2011 through July 25,
2012.
