The Warsaw soccer programs had one last hurrah this season by landing five members on the 2012 Indiana Soccer Coaches Association All-State teams.
Four Tiger boys were named to the state list, led by First-Team nods to senior forward Diego Lopez and senior goalkeeper Michael Yantz. Receiving Second-Team All-State honors was senior forward Nathan Kolbe and earning Honorable Mention All-State was junior defender Stephen Kolbe.
On the girls side, Warsaw senior forward Meredith Hollar was tabbed Honorable Mention All-State.
Lopez, a fleet-footed and skilled forward, scored 16 goals and assisted on four more in 20 games played this year. Nathan Kolbe, running up front with Lopez for a good portion of the season, scored 20 goals and assisted on 11 to lead Warsaw in scoring this year for a Tiger team that advanced to the state championship game.
Stephen Kolbe helped anchor a Tiger defense that allowed just a dozen goals all season, thanks in large part to the goaltending of Yantz, who in his only full season between the pipes allowed just 11 of those goals while saving 84 shots, boasting a 0.47 goals against average in leading Warsaw to 19 field wins during the season. In 12 of Warsaw’s contests this season, Yantz posted a clean slate.
Hollar graduates from Warsaw as the all-time leading scorer in Lady Tiger program history with 67 goals in her career. In 2012, Hollar rang up 25 goals and added eight assists in just 12 full games after suffering an injury during the year.
The four Warsaw boys joined four other area players on the All-State list, including the West Noble duo of Uriel Macias (Second-Team) and Jose Acevedo (Honorable Mention), South Bend St. Joseph’s Tommy Clark (Second-Team) and Penn’s Edson Zamora (Honorable Mention).
South Bend St. Joseph had Catherine Raster (First-Team), Maddie Turner (First-Team) and Cat Edmonds (Third-Team) all make the girls list, along with Second-Teamers Gaby Romo of Goshen and Kara Kershner of Northridge. Gabby Veldman of Mishawaka Marian and Kimi Lutterell of Penn were Honorable Mention All-State.
