North Webster Public Library News
Now that the weather is growing colder and the expenses of the holidays are upon us, many families are cutting back and spending more time at home. Your library can be an excellent source of free home entertainment all year long.
In addition to over 60,000 books and printed materials for your reading pleasure, the library offers a large collection of over 3,800 DVDs ranging from the latest releases to timeless classics including adult, educational, and children’s movies.
Our collection also includes the latest Blu-ray™ discs for a high definition viewing experience for those who own Blu-ray™ players. Please be aware that Blu-ray™ discs do not work in regular DVD players; however, the library has a large selection of regular DVDs, as well as VHS tapes, for everyone to enjoy.
Music lovers will be surprised to discover our 700-plus CD collection that includes a large variety of music genres. Classical, pop, country, blues, jazz, folk, gospel, and rock are all represented with new titles by popular artists being added each month.
Or perhaps your family might enjoy an evening of listening to an audio book. The library has over 2,000 titles to choose from including all types of fiction, nonfiction and children’s books.
How about planning a family puzzle night? The library has a puzzle exchange where you can exchange those puzzles you’ve already conquered for new challenges. Not only are puzzles a fun family activity, they’re also a great way to exercise the mind and keep it sharp.
Book Buddy Kits are available in the Youth Services Department and are packed with books, toys, storytelling aids, puzzles and other activities to keep the kids entertained. There are 24 different kits, each one focusing on a different subject, and can be checked out for a week. Book Buddy Kits can also be a great way for grandparents to entertain visiting grandkids over the holidays.
Of course, free programs are regularly offered at the library for all ages. During Thanksgiving break, bring the entire family to Family Movie Time at 3 p.m. Friday Nov. 23, to enjoy a G-rated movie about a girl who uses her canine friends to teach the real meaning of Christmas.
Next week, the Voyager Book Club meets at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, to discuss a book of their choice. Then on Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Revolving Recipe Round-Up meets at 6 p.m. to share a casserole each one has prepared along with its recipe. It’s a fun way to try new dishes and build up your recipe file. Another Family Movie will be shown at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29.
Come and see how Santa’s youngest son uses his father’s high tech operation for an urgent mission in this animated PG-rated film. The library is a free alternative to costly entertainment. We continually update our collection with new arrivals each week.
Stop by often to check out all that we offer. You can also visit our website www.nweb.lib.in.us for a listing of our programs and events as well as search our online catalog for available books, audio books, e-books, movies, and CDs. If you don’t have a library card, stop by and apply for one. It’s absolutely free to residents of Tippecanoe Township.
