Two Football Coaches Step Down
A pair of area high school football programs are in the market for head coaches following recent resignations by two veteran coaches.
Rodney Younis at Triton and Jon Kirkton at Northridge recently stepped down from their respective positions.
Younis spent the last 11 years as coach of the Trojans. He was 40-82 overall at the smallest school in the tough Northern State Conference. Younis guided Triton to Class 1-A sectional championships in both 2007 and 2008.
Triton finished 1-9 this fall, defeating NSC foe LaVille 21-10.
Kirkton directed the Raiders for the past 10 seasons. Northridge went 22-81 overall during his tenure as coach, winning a total of 12 games in the Northern Lakes Conference. Kirkton’s best season in Middlebury came in 2009 when the Raiders finished 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the NLC.
Northridge finished 2-9 during the 2012 season, with one of those wins being by forfeit over South Bend Adams. The Raiders were 1-10 on the field, beating Angola 18-13 in a Class 4-A, first-round sectional contest.
