Chimney Fire Is Warning To Others
The Pierceton Fire Department was called to 2710 E. 550 S. at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday night for a reported chimney fire and it has prompted the department to issue a warning to other residents.
The fire was at a home owned by Doug and Tammy Wise. When the fire department arrived, firefighters found sparks coming from the top of the chimney. The fire originated in a wood burning stove located in the basement. The fire was contained to the interior of the chimney. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
As the weather gets colder and people begin using their wood stoves and fireplaces more frequently, PFD Second Lt. Gordon Baker asks residents to remember that over a period of time, creosote will build up in chimneys and will drastically increase the potential for chimney fires. In order to reduce the chances of fire, chimneys should be inspected annually and cleaned on a regular basis.
