Elkhart Music Manufacturer Passes Away
The former owner of an Elkhart music instrument company has died on Nov. 8 at the age of 82. Henkin used to own Gemeinhardt and C.G. Conn Instruments.
Henkin was responsible for putting Elkhart on the map when it comes to music instrument manufacturing.
The book Elkhart’s Brass Roots says Henkin purchased K. G. Gemeinhardt Co. Inc. of Elkhart in 1970 and sold it to CBS in 1977.
He then acquired C.G. Conn Ltd. from MacMillan in 1980 in a deal once considered the largest single sale of a music instrument manufacturer to a single individual.
