Tiger Trio Honored As All-State
The Warsaw Community High School boys cross country is being rewarded for its outstanding performance at the State Finals.
The Tigers, who placed fourth as a team at State on Oct. 27, had three runners named to the Indiana Association of Track and Cross County Coaches All-State team.
Senior Jake Poyner and junior Ellis Coon were each honored as first-team, All-State selections. Senior Robert Murphy was a second-team, All-State choice.
Poyner placed sixth overall in a time of 15:37 at the State Finals held in Terre Haute. Coon was eighth overall in 15:41 and Murphy 14th in 15:43. Among individuals competing with teams, Poyner finished fourth, Coon sixth and Murphy ninth.
The Tigers, coached by Jim Mills, won the Northern Lakes Conference title, sectional and regional championships and were second at the semi state. The fourth place finish among the 24 teams competing at State was the best in program history for WCHS.
