KCSD Deputy Chris Francis responded to an 11:38 a.m. call regarding a male subject who was parked on the side of U.S. 30 near County Road 350 West. The caller noted the man appeared to be disorientated.
Deputy Francis arrived and was immediately waved down by the subject, later identified as Ralph A. Hayes, 61, Indianapolis. As Deputy Francis spoke with Hayes, it became quite evident that the man did not know where he was, believing that he was still potentially in Marion County.
Deputy Francis immediately request an ambulance as the Kosciusko County Central Dispatch Center made contact with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. It was soon learned that Hayes had been reported missing by his wife in Indianapolis.
As Hayes was being transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for a medical evaluation, Deputy Francis was advised that Hayes suffered from lung cancer and was prescribed several different medications that have varying effects.
Hayes was originally en route to a 7:30 a.m. cancer treatment appointment and was completely unaware that he had travelled north of Indianapolis almost 110 miles. Hayes’ wife and family members were immediately made aware of his location at KCH.
