John Homer Mason
John Homer Mason, 77, of rural Etna Green, Ind., passed away at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
John was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Warsaw, Ind., to LeRoy Mason and Nettie Jordan Mason. He was a resident of the Etna Green and Bourbon areas most all his life.John was a veteran and served 20 years in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War and two terms in the Vietnam War. He was a Mess Cook Sergeant. Locally he worked for Orthopedic Equipment Company, Wireflex and at Bourbon Plastics.
John was an avid sports fan and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports and was an outdoorsman. He was a member of the Bourbon American Legion Post #424 and past Commander and the V.F.W. John was also a member the Bourbon First United Methodist Church and attended Alters gate United Methodist Church at Atwood.
On Nov. 5, 1993, he joined in marriage to Eileen Keb, who passed away July 19, 2001.
John is survived by his children: Jami (Todd) McIntyre, Jenny (Jim) Reichert, Jan (Jerry) Ulmer, all of Bourbon, Ind.; and Johnny Mason of Lincoln, Neb.; along with their mother Sharon Sheaks, Bourbon; and eight step-children; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his good friend: Doris Hamman.
John was preceded in death by two sons: Ricky Ray and Sonny Jay Mason.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home with Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will follow in the Etna Green Cemetery at Etna Green with Military graveside services by the Bourbon American Legion.
