Dog Park Opens In Warsaw
It has long been on the hearts and minds of Kosciusko County residents who want a safe and dog friendly place to let their pooches run and play. Today, a dog park is a reality, but it’s going to take the community’s support to help maintain it.
Rudy’s Dog Park, located on North 100 East and East 300 North near the Warsaw Municipal Airport, is a not-for-profit organization offering a leash-free roam zone for dogs – and their owners.
There are currently two fenced in areas for dogs, but Rudy’s Dog Park operators envision a total of four fenced areas with access to a beach area and a jumping pier.
According to the dog park’s website, development of a small adjacent area is planned to facilitate various community activities that would attract people and help fund the park’s maintenance. The long term vision includes the construction of a community building which would be available to rent for community based activities.
Owners of dogs utilizing Rudy’s Dog Park will be required to have all dogs licensed and current on vaccinations, and they must assure their animals are well behaved. Dogs must also be supervised at all times.
Those who use the park will be required to pay a nominal annual fee. Membership includes a key card that permits usage of the facility from dawn to dusk daily.
Rudy’s Dog Park is currently under the management of Lake City Animal Clinic. The goal, however, is to hire a permanent part-time manager to oversee the operations.
A fundraiser for Rudy’s Dog Park is being held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Downtown, 205 W. Center St., Warsaw. A raffle and live auction will be held to raise money for the continued development of the park.
