Canterbury Slips By In Volleyball
The Whitko volleyball team lost a close 3-2 final to Fort Wayne Canterbury Thursday night.
Canterbury rallied to take the match 25-19, 10-25, 17-25, 27-25, 15-11.
Whitney Hobbs and Taylor Zwick each slammed 13 kills to lead Whitko. Meghan Peters had five aces and 37 assists for the Wildcats.
Jenny Brown led Whitko with 21 digs and Zwick had a team-high five blocks.
The Whitko JV team won 25-8, 25-14. Tressa Keim led the winners with three kills and Jasmine Gregory had four assists. Keim and Emily Day each had six aces and Keim had five digs and Whitney Marsh a block.
Norwell Edges Soccer Girls
A goal by Tasia DeLeon in the second half was all it took as Norwell grabbed a 1-0 victory in South Whitley Thursday night in girls soccer.
DeLeon’s goal was the fifth of her season, helping the Lady Knights to a 9-3-1 record heading into the postseason. Haley Heller made 11 saves to record her sixth shutout of the season. Jordan Hall had 14 saves for the Lady Wildcats (4-6-2) which concludes its regular season.
Up next for Whitko is Mississinewa in the first round of the Blackford Sectional.
Garrett Shuts Out Wildcats
Whitko finished up its regular season Thursday with a loss. The Railroaders of Garrett piled up five goals and held the Wildcats nary a strike in the 5-0 final.
Jacob Helton faced 22 shots, stopping 17 for the Wildcats (1-11-2) while Garrett evens its record at 8-8 as both clubs move toward their sectional tournaments.
Whitko will face Fort Wayne Concordia at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the first game of the four-team Fort Wayne Canterbury Sectional. Manchester and Canterbury will square off in the second game Wednesday. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
