Whitko Sports Wrap – Sept. 25
All the scoring came in the first half, but Whitko needed a second half miracle that wouldn’t come in a 2-1 loss to Prairie Heights Tuesday night in boys soccer.
Ryan Burkholder scored the opening goal on an assist from Christian Granados to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage. Darrin Cole scored the eventual game winner for the Panthers minutes later.
Whitko cut the lead in half when Tyler Herendeen scored his second goal of the season to conclude the first half excitement. Neither team could stifle each other’s defenses in the second half, making the Panthers a winner for the eighth time this season in 14 contests. Whitko is still searching for its second win of the year, dropping to 1-10-2 on the season.
Kyle Burkholder made four saves in net for the Panthers while Jacob Helton had one stop for the Wildcats.
Whitko’s name was drawn to face Fort Wayne Concordia in the first game of the four-team Fort Wayne Canterbury Sectional next Wednesday. The 5 p.m. game will precede Manchester and 1A No. 5 Fort Wayne Canterbury in the 7 p.m. matchup. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 6.
