Singles Play Powers Lancers
WINONA LAKE – Grace’s women’s tennis team continued its late-season improvement with a come-from-behind 6-3 win over Huntington on Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers (2-5; 2-5 Crossroads League) lost two of three doubles points before rallying to win five singles competitions en route to the team’s second straight league win.
Sarah Hinkel and Esther Smith earned the only doubles victory for Grace with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Freshman Taryn Wuensch continued her impressive first season by pulling out a clutch 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. Nicole Beguin at No. 3 singles also found herself in a tough match and was victorious by the score of 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Janelle Hess won the only three-set match of the afternoon with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) win at No. 4 singles.
Hinkel coasted to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, and Smith rounded out Grace’s points at No. 6 singles by the score of 6-4, 6-1.
The Lady Lancers wrap up the regular season with a pair of home matches, including against Northwestern Ohio at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and against St. Francis at 10 a.m. Saturday.
