Pairings Set For Soccer Sectionals
The postseason path is now known for area prep boys and girls soccer squads.
The IHSAA conducted state tournament pairings for both the boys and girls on Tuesday with sectional play slated to begin Oct. 1.
The Class 2-A No. 3 Warsaw boys team opens tourney play Oct. 3 versus NLC and county rival Wawasee in the six-team Plymouth Sectional. The Tigers, who sit at 13-1-2 on the season, just defeated the Warriors 5-0 on Saturday. Wawasee is 2-11-2 on the season.
Warsaw, coached by Scott Bauer, advanced to the semi state final a year ago.
The Whitko boys team plays Fort Wayne Concordia Oct. 3 in the opening match of the four-team Class 1-A sectional at Fort Wayne Canterbury.
Lakeland Christian Academy, in its first season as a member of the IHSAA, is assigned to the Class 1-A Culver Sectional. The Cougars drew a bye and play the winner of the Culver-Argos game on Oct. 3 in a semifinal match.
Regional play on the boys side is slated for Oct. 11 and 13. The Class 2-A site will be at Mishawaka with the Plymouth Sectional winner facing the South Bend St. Joseph Sectional winner in a semifinal game. The Class 1-A regionals are at Caston and Garrett. The Culver Sectional winner plays the Benton Central Sectional winner at Culver. At Garrett, the Canterbury Sectional winner faces the Fort Wayne Blackhawk Sectional champion.
The boys semi states are Oct. 20 with the State Finals Oct. 27.
The Warsaw girls team begins postseason play right away at home on Oct. 2. Coach Dan Miller’s squad, currently 9-3-2, plays Culver Academy in the opener of their own five-team Class 2-A sectional. Wawasee (3-10-1) drew the bye and faces the Warsaw-Culver winner in a semifinal contest. Warsaw defeated the Warriors 5-0 on Saturday.
Warsaw senior star Meredith Hollar currently has 59 career goals, just two away from tying the school record of 61 held by Ashley Kitchens. Warsaw plays at Northridge Thursday night in their regular-season and NLC finale.
Whitko will face Mississenewa in a first-round game Oct. 1 in the eight-team Class 1-A Blackford Sectional.
Regional play on the girls side is set for Oct. 10 and 13. The Class 2-A locally is at Goshen with the Warsaw Sectional winner playing the South Bend Riley winner in one semifinal. The Class 1-A is at Canterbury with the Blackford Sectional winner facing the South Adams Sectional winner.
The girls semi states are Oct. 20 with the State Finals Oct. 27.
