Wildcats Whip Winless Wabash
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko left absolutely no doubt in this one Friday night.
The Wildcats bounced back from a tough loss a week ago to rock winless Wabash 51-19 in Three Rivers Conference play.
Whitko stormed to a 23-0 lead after the opening period en route to a commanding 44-7 advantage at halftime.
The Wildcats, who dropped a 13-10 final to Manchester a week ago, rolled up 408 yards of total offense Friday night. Whitko rushed for 286 yards in the rout.
Sophomore Devin Gerding led a slew of Whitko running backs to get into the act Friday night. Gerding ran for 90 yards on just five carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 61 and 10 yards.
Quarterback Alex Stoddard ran for one score and fired a 62-yard touchdown toss to Connor Stouder. Stouder also added a 23-yard touchdown run for the winners. Tanner Hughes collected 85 yards on the ground on 14 carries and scored once for the Wildcats.
Whitko improves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the TRC. Wabash falls to 0-5 and 0-3.
Whitko plays at Northfield next Friday night in another TRC contest.
