Man Arrested On 2011 Sex Charges
James Robert Carpenter, 24, formerly of 401 Wooster Rd., Winona Lake, was arrested earlier this week on a warrant and held on a $10,000 bond for two class B felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Carpenter first reported being harassed over a year ago. Brad Kellar, then a Winona Lake Police officer, was called to 401 Wooster Rd. where he stopped Carpenter, who appeared to be hurriedly attempting to leave his home.
During that stop, Kellar also spoke with a female passenger, only identified in court papers as M.L.G., age 15. The girl told the officer the male subjects were her brothers who had come to fight Carpenter because they did not want the two together.
Kellar reportedly drove the girl to her home where they spoke with the girl’s mother. During the investigation, it was learned that both Carpenter and the girl admitted to a sexual relationship that began as early as Oct. 31, 2010. Carpenter and M.L.G. confessed to having sex four or five times over the course of the five month period.
Carpenter apparently moved to Gadsden, Ala., to escape punishment. A warrant was issued for his arrest on May 13, 2011. He was arrested on the warrant on Monday.
An initial hearing was held Tuesday in Kosciusko County Superior Court I. A pre-trial hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 13.
