A five-week “Beginning Genealogy” class is being offered at 2 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 19 and running through Oct. 17. In this class, Beth Smith, director of the Local History and Genealogy Center and Adult Services, helps beginners get started in researching their family genealogy. She explains standards for genealogy, how to find information, research techniques, online and offline resources, and what your local NWPL has to offer. Sign up at the front desk if you’re interested in attending.
The “Where Do I Begin?” class is for those who have been researching their family history for a while and are seeking to complete their project. This is a one-time class held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17. In this class, Beth will show students how to organize their research and put it into a final presentation that can be passed down to future generations.
Students will explore various methods of completion, how to format the content, and other ideas for creating a customized presentation that reflects their individualized style and family. No advanced registration is required to take this class. Both the “Beginning Genealogy” and “Where Do I Begin?” classes are open to the public free of charge.
After a busy summer of Reading Clubs and activities, the Youth Services Department is gearing up once again for fall. “Begin-IN-Books” starts at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, and runs the third Monday of each month September through May. “Begin-IN-Books with Mrs. B.” is designed to help children ages 18 months and older learn reading readiness skills for kindergarten.
Parents can start signing their preschoolers up for the fall Preschool Story Time beginning Sept. 19. The theme for the fall session is “Pets with Mrs. Pam” and will be held every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. from Oct. 3 through Nov. 21. Teens are invited to come and see what the Library has planned for them this fall at a special Teen Kick-Off Event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. Snacks will be included.
