Grace Tennis Team Wins Opener
The Grace College men’s tennis kicked off the 2012 season with a 6-3 victory over Marian University Wednesday in Indianapolis.
The Lancers also won their first match in the newly renamed Crossroads League, formerly the Mid-Central College Conference.
“This was a great way to start the season for us. Marian was significantly improved from last year,” said Grace head coach Larry Schuh. “We had a really strong performance, and everyone picked up where we left off last year to play strong.”
Grace started out the match by winning two out of the three doubles points, including at No. 1 doubles with Michael Blevins and Nikola Todorovic and at No. 2 doubles with Aaron Blevins and Daniel Sanchez.
In singles competition, the Lancers performed solidly. Sanchez pulled out two close wins at No. 1 singles to take a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Michael Blevins persevered to win in three sets at No. 2 singles, and Todorovic made short work of his match to win 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Aaron Blevins rounded out Grace’s scoring with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
Michael Humphrey battled in three sets before ultimately falling at No. 5 singles, and Jack Wang fell 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
The Lancers continue action in the Crossroads League with a match at rival Spring Arbor on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
