Erba Runs To Another Record
Warsaw long distance running phenom Ashley Erba just continues to set records.
The senior standout broke her own record Saturday in another dominating performance to capture first-place honors at the Baron Classic at DeKalb High School.
Erba, the defending state cross country champion, covered the course in a record time of 18:12 to win the event for the fourth straight year. Erba broke her own course standard set in 2011 by a whopping 42 seconds.
Coach Scott Erba’s young Tiger team, ranked No. 13, turned in a strong effort to place third in the team standings. Sarah Ray was ninth overall in a time of 19:57 and Madeline Hooks was 26th overall in 21:01 for Warsaw.
Warsaw had nine personal record times in the invite and a pair of season best efforts. Personal record performances were turned in by Tayler Mylin (21:21), Tennie Worrell (21:40), Emily Stouder (21:44), Hannah Thompson (22:00), Claire Kehler (23:05), Jackie Ferguson (23:43), Audra Harman (23:52), Laine Hertel (24:14) and Cindi Trier (30:05). The two season best times came from Kara Millington (22:17) and Alexis Winters (24:10).
No. 4 Carroll won the team title with a score of 35, while NLC member and No. 9 Northridge was second with 81 with Warsaw third with 96, followed by Fort Wayne Concordia (108), Huntington North (123), East Noble (153), Fort Wayne Snider (163), DeKalb (212), Fort Wayne Northrop (260) and Fort Wayne North (291).
For the Tigers, Mylin placed 33rd, followed by teammates Hannah Dawson in 37th (21:33), Worrell (39th), Emma Hayward 41st (21:41), Stouder 43rd, Thompson 51st, Millington 56th, Cynthia Yoder 70th (22:54), Kehler 75th, Brooke Rhodes 76th (23:06), Ferguson 86th, Harman 89th, Winters 102nd, Hertel 105th, Alexis Himes 106th (24:30), Courtney Etchison 125th (26:23), Mariah Harter 138th (27:46), Emma Lehman 140th (28:23), Trier 145th and Nicole Brackett 146th (30:08).
The Warsaw girls and boys team host the Tiger Classic Invitational Tuesday (Aug. 28). The girls race begins at 5:15 p.m. with the boys race at 5:45 p.m. at Miller Field on the Grace College campus in Winona Lake. There is no entry fee for the event.
