Tiger Soccer Squad Stays Unbeaten
The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in the Class 2-A poll, shook off a slow first-half performance to post a 3-0 victory over Fort Wayne Northrop Tuesday night at WCHS.
Warsaw, despite playing without Diego Lopez (suspension) and Gustavo Rodriguez (injury), used its depth to blank the Bruins in the non-conference match.
Junior Zack Tucker gave the undefeated Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, scoring off an assist from senior Nathan Kolbe.
Kolbe, a midfielder/forward, tallied his sixth goal of the young season in the second half for the hosts. Senior Grant Allbritten also scored for the Tigers off an assist from his sophomore brother Sam.
Senior keeper Michael Yantz recorded four saves in goal to notch the shutout.Warsaw, which lost in the semi state final in 2011, is also currently without head coach Scott Bauer. He is serving a suspension relating to an off-the-field incident which occurred last October. WCHS JV coach Frank Courtois is currently filling in for Bauer, who will return later this season.
Warsaw (3-0) opens Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday at Plymouth. The varsity game is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.
