Lady Warriors Get Past LaVille
On a cold and misty day, Wawasee played as well as the weather showed, but did enough to beat hosts LaVille, 195-222, at Swan Lake Friday morning.
Wawasee teammates Mikala Mawhorter and Alex Goralczyk both shot 45 to medal the round while LaVille’s Lauren Reed was one shot back at 46. Wawasee’s Elizabeth Jackson finished just off the pace with a 47.
“We had three scores in the 40s and still need that to be competitive in the conference,” started Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone, whose club begins Northern Lakes Conference play on Aug. 21 at Goshen. “Alex went to the range last night and put in some extra time, and it paid off.”
With the win Friday, Wawasee moves to 3-0 on the young season but faces a busy week ahead with a road match against Manchester Monday and home tilt at Maxwelton against West Noble and Marian Tuesday. Wawasee will take part in the Rochester Invite next Saturday.
