Uceny Reaches 1,500 Final
The chance at a gold medal is now in sight for Plymouth’s Morgan Uceny.
Finishing third with a time of 4:05.34 in the first heat of the 1,500-meter run at the London Olympics, Uceny’s placement sends her to the championship round on Friday. The first heat was very close, as the winner, Asli Cakir Alptekin of Turkey, won with a time of 4:05.11. American Shannon Rowbury was fifth at 4:05.47, taking the final automatic qualifying spot.
Heat two saw Abeba Aregawi of Ethiopia win with a time of 4:01.03, and the top eight finishers from that group all advance to Friday, as Lucia Klocova of Slovakia had the final inclusionary time of 4:02.99. American Jennifer Simpson ran a 4:06.89 in heat two but will not run Friday night.
The championship of the women’s 1,500-meter run will take place at 3:50 p.m. EST on Friday. NBC will broadcast the race live on nbcolympics.com and will tape-delay the race on NBC in its evening program.
