PC’s For Youth Fundraiser
PC’s For Youth held their annual fundraising dinner banquet on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Shipshewana Town Center with more than 80 guests in attendance. The organization gives free computers to students in LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, DeKalb, Elkhart, and Kosciusko counties, however, when they say students they mean middle/high school, college, and adults trying to obtain their GED.
During the event, PC’s For Youth Executive Director Colton Strawser announced different changes the organization will be going through in 2013. He stated that he was going to be stepping down as the executive director in 2013, and moving into the role of Director of Development. Samuel Lovelace, previous Director of Technology for PC’s For Youth, will be taking over the position once Strawser steps down.
Also during the event’s presentation Strawser stated that PC’s For Youth was going to be expanding to their seventh county in 2013: Whitley County. The final details for when the organization’s expansion into Whitley County are not yet determined, but it is the organization’s goal to expand sometime in 2013. The organization expanded to Elkhart County at the beginning of 2011, and Kosciusko County at the beginning of this year.
Strawser stated “I’m excited to be announcing the expansion into Whitley County. We have been working on this expansion project for the last couple of months, but I am glad that we are making it public information now. I will be working with Whitley County schools and organizations over the next couple of months to get our program’s information out, which will hopefully make this expansion project run smoothly.”
PC’s For Youth is currently in need of computer donations. PC’s For Youth accepts donations from businesses and community members that are Windows XP or newer. They also accept flat screen monitors, hard drives, computer parts, storage devices, keyboard, mice, and ink cartridges.
